Glow up your denim!
Registration is required. This workshop is intended for ages 13-17.
Discover how to paint on denim, sew fashion patches onto clothing, and add sequins, beads, or fabric swatches to express your unique style. Revive an old pair of denim pants, a jean jacket, denim shorts, or similar items. Please bring a denim piece from your wardrobe to upcycle.
Dominique Kongsli (Ovalle) (she, her, ella) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator. Her mother taught her how to sew when she was a child, and she took a fashion design class in high school. She didn’t have much money for clothing during high school, so she upcycled, modified, and created her own garments from fabric and thrift store finds. In college, she earned money by painting designs on friends’ clothes.
She studied studio art at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and earned a master’s degree in studio art at Claremont Graduate University. She is a classically trained oil painter and a former street artist.
