Build A Walking Group Together
Monday, August 03
10:00am - 11:30am
Central Library
Community 1Start a walking group with a research-based toolkit from the OHSU school of Nursing.
Interested in building a walking habit while connecting with others? Join us for an 8-week program designed to help create a sustainable walking group right here at the Central Library using the OHSU School of Nursing Step it Up Toolkit.
Together, we’ll learn how to start and maintain a successful walking group. By the end of the program, the group will have the tools to continue walking together, including a name, shared ground rules, a peer leader, walking routes, and a plan for welcoming new members.
Want to see what a library walking group can look like? Here's a video featuring one of our successful walking groups that launched using this same toolkit and is still walking as a group today 2 years later:

When registering for the program, register for all of the dates. Please reach out to Rya ahead of time if you cannot make it to all the sessions. Contact information is found below.
Program Details
We are looking for at least 3 committed walkers who can meet weekly at 10:00 a.m. for 8 weeks. We’ll meet at the Central Library each week and begin walking together on day 1.
(Note: we will not have a session on September 7-Memorial Day)
Each session will include:
- Learning and activities using the OHSU Step it Up Toolkit in a classroom setting
- Time to build your walking group plan
- A 1-hour group walk
Grab a friend, meet new neighbors, and let’s get moving!
