Learn about the night sky at an amateur astronomy star party!

This program is intended for ages 9+. All children must be accompanied by a caregiver.

Find constellations, Saturn, a nebula, and even a galaxy in the Central Oregon night sky!

Join Ken Wisian, Meena Balakrishnan, and Deschutes Public Library to learn about the stars! No experience necessary – just come and enjoy looking up at night. Two telescopes will be available for use and we will find and explore numerous wonders in the night sky.

Things to bring:

  • Good binoculars (if you have them)
  • A blanket or a chair
  • Your own telescope (if you have it)

About the Instructors:

Recent transplants to Central Oregon, Ken Wisian and Meena Balakrishnan hold Ph.D.'s in geology/physics and are long-time amateur astronomers. Ken also teaches the university course Life in the Universe and has published academic works on space exploration.
