Does your family have a weird gelatin salad that only appears at the holidays? We need to see it! Join the Deschutes Historical Museum in a celebration of weird vintage salad recipes at the Holiday Geletin Salad Show on Saturday, December 12 at the Central Library. Viewing begins at 12:00 pm with judging beginning at 12:30pm
Enter creations in one of five different categories:
- Dessert Salads — a molded creation Grandma would be proud of!
- Savory Salads — Gelatin isn’t just for desserts!
- Family Salad Recipe — This category is for family recipes, sweet or savory, that have been passed through the generations. We love it if you have a photograph of the salad from a family gathering.
- Nailed It! Best Ooops You Tried — Just because you bought the mold doesn’t mean you can get it out of the mold. But we don’t care! You gave it your best and we still want to see it.
- Gelatin as Art – Nonedible art creations are welcome in this new category focused on form, not flavor.
Entries in all categories (except art) will be judged on presentation, flavor, and overall appeal. Recipes must be included with your entry form. One winner will be selected in each category, with a Best in Show award selected from the category winners. Only judges are allowed to taste the salads.
Entry forms available HERE or at the Deschutes Historical Museum’s website, deschuteshistory.org. Bring your salad, recipe, and completed entry form to the Central Library between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 12 to register. Full rules and registration information available at deschuteshistory.org.
