Whether you're new to crafting in the kitchen or a seasoned pro, this hands-on session will guide you through the art of making flavored vinegars and shrubs, perfect for adding a unique touch to your holiday gatherings or gifting to loved ones.
Workshop Content:
Infused Vinegars, Delicious Gifts: Flavored vinegars are a fantastic way to infuse everyday dishes with a burst of flavor. You'll discover how simple it is to customize vinegar with your favorite herbs, fruits, and spices. These creations not only elevate your cooking but also make beautiful, handcrafted gifts that show you put thought and care into each bottle. And you'll make your own bottle to take home!
The Shrub - A Drink for the Ages: Shrubs, the sweet-tart syrups made from fruit, sugar, and vinegar, are equally versatile. They can be mixed into cocktails, mocktails, or even drizzled over desserts for a refreshing twist. In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of shrub-making, exploring different flavor combinations that will leave your taste buds tingling.
Stay Safe, Preserve Smart, Live Long: Food preservation, when done right, is a safe, nutritious, economical, and tasty way to feed your family. Your safety is our first priority. Our workshop leader was trained by OSU Extension, and we follow OSU Extension guidelines for safe practices. We encourage you to visit OSU Extension's website for great recipes, tips, and more on safe practices.
About the Instructor
Barbara Mardis has worn a lot of hats in the business world: Program Planning and Control Analyst for an aerospace company, Office Manager for a public library, Payroll for a major golf resort, Office Manager for an elementary school that included deaf students and interpreters in every classroom. But her not-so-secret passion is the garden, inspired by her grandmother’s garden, and the walk-in pantry with shelves full of canned goods that looked like gleaming jewels. Barbara canned for years, and then discovered fermentation, which she has leaned into heavily ever since.
