Community 2Find your portal into stillness, wonder, and the inner life.
What might Mary’s ancient story have to say to our hurried and distracted world? In this Advent-season presentation, pastor and writer TJ Johnson explores Mary the mother of Jesus as a surprising guide to the contemplative life. Drawing from Christian traditions, art, mysticism, and his own unexpected journey toward Mary as a Protestant pastor, TJ will explore themes of stillness, wonder, receptivity, courage, and learning to live with mystery. Participants will also be invited to consider their own “portal” into the contemplative life—whether through another religious or spiritual tradition, nature, music, art, meditation, silence, or other practices of deep attention.
About the Presenter

TJ Johnson is a Lutheran pastor, writer, teacher, and longtime student of the contemplative tradition. He has presented at conferences, retreats, workshops, adult education programs, and community gatherings, and his writing explores spirituality, contemplation, Scripture, and the search for a more grounded life. TJ currently serves Zion Lutheran Church in Redmond, Oregon, and is under contract to publish a book exploring Mary as a guide to the contemplative life. TJ lives on the Dry Canyon in Redmond with his spouse, Elizabeth, and their two cats.
