Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.
The Red Cross provides about 40% of our nation’s blood and blood components, all from generous volunteer donors. But supply can’t always meet demand because only about 3% of age-eligible people donate blood yearly. Each new donor helps us meet patient needs.
At the blood drive, donors are greeted, complete a quick health screening, and give blood under the care of trained professionals. Each donation is then tested and processed to help patients in need of transfusions.
The American Red Cross was established in 1881 by Clara Barton and was initially to provide disaster relief and aid during wartime. Services were expanded to blood collections in 1941. The Vision of the American Red Cross has always been to bring together a strong network of volunteers, donors and partners. Providing a beacon of hope during disasters and ensuring access to lifesaving blood. The American Red Cross is there when HELP CAN'T WAIT.
