This program is open all ages, but best suited for children kindergarten and up as there is a presentation portion of the program with slides. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver.
Tyler Spencer's Didgeridoo Experience combines funky didgeridoo rhythms, worldly percussive beats, storytelling and audience participation. The didgeridoo has been played by Aboriginal Australians for at least 1500 years and is known for its otherworldly and captivating sound. Tyler is a master didgeridoo player (and crafter) based out of Newport. He has been performing, teaching and making didgeridoos for 20+ years, and he is one of the most accomplished and talented didge players in the United States. You'll learn about Aboriginal culture, how didgeridoos are made and more... all while moving and grooving to the pulsing rhythms of the didge. Tyler's Didgeridoo Experience is interactive, educational and entertaining for all ages!
Used in Aboriginal ceremonial performances to share stories and pass on traditions, the didgeridoo, or "Yirdaki," is a wind instrument made from termite-hollowed eucalyptus branches or seedlings. Like brass instruments, didgeridoos are played using the vibration of your lips to produce the sound. Various techniques are used to create sounds and rhythms including the circular breathing technique which allows the player to breathe in through their nose while exhaling out the mouth, keeping the sound going without interruption for a breath.
