The S'more You Know
Summer with the Library
Tuesday, June 16
5:30pm - 6:30pm
Central Library
Community 1Learn about campfire alternatives while making s'mores with fire professionals!
This event is intended for people of all ages. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver.
When weather conditions and low vegetation moisture create increased wildfire potential in Central Oregon, public fire use restrictions (aka campfire bans) are put in place on federal public lands, like the Deschutes National Forest. These fire restrictions help reduce the chance of human-caused wildfire starts.
Join staff from the Deschutes National Forest to explore ways to make sure your next camping trip has excellent ambiance and tasty s’mores even without a campfire. The fire prevention staff will share why Central Oregon public lands move into personal use fire restrictions when the summer gets a little too hot and dry. Staff will provide fun campfire alternative ideas and a chance to make your own non-campfire s’more! So even on those nights when you can't have a campfire, you can still enjoy a unique and memorable outdoor experience!
