This presentation will take us through a brief history of the Wilderness Act and the evolution of wilderness areas in Central Oregon. How have uses and expectations changed, and what does this mean for the preservation of wilderness character? Finally, we'll talk about the development and implementation of a limited entry permit system for the Mt Jefferson, Three Sisters and Mt Washington wilderness areas, and how you can get a permit for the coming season.

Lisa Machnik is the Recreation, Heritage and Lands Staff Officer for the Deschutes National Forest. A central Oregon resident since 2016, Lisa appreciate'sall that our incredible public lands have to offer. She loves to backpack, bike, ski,(and pretty much everything else one can do outside), and when she's indoors, she's a bookworm. Lisa's education and professional background is in outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism. She has have had the privilege of working on ecotourism development projects in a variety of incredible locations.
