Lupita McClanahan was raised in secrecy by her clan’s medicine people in Canyon de Chelly so that she could keep her culture alive. Though eventually taken to boarding school, Lupita has dedicated her life to building a bridge between the contemporary world and traditional Diné way of life. Through powerful storytelling, watch how she brings people like you into the the canyon‘s spiritual ways, while also re-educating the next generation of Diné peoples in their culture.
Canyon de Chelly is home to Diné families who live, raise livestock, and tend to farmland in the canyons. People have lived in the canyons for nearly 5,000 years, which is longer than anyone has lived continuously on the Colorado Plateau. In this place called Tsegi, their homes and images tell us their stories. Today, the park and Navajo Nation work together to manage the rich cultural and natural resources.
