A monthly book club for youth ages 16-20. March's selection is Summer in the City of Roses by Michelle Ruiz Keil. This is an in-person program. About the book: "When Iph, a 17-year-old of Greek and Mexican descent, learns of her father's plans to send her brother away, she sets out to rescue him. But a chance meeting with the generous, nonbinary George opens her mind and heart as they wander Portland. As a kind, questioning, neurodivergent teen with anxiety, Orr was never the son his father wanted. On his own for the first time, he is picked up by a punk-rock band named The Furies. By expanding their horizons and navigating newfound relationships with a diverse cast, the siblings transform." -From School Library Journal. Physical copies of the book can be picked up from the front desk of the Downtown Bend library. These books do not have to be checked out with a library card; we simply ask that you return the book at our meeting or in the book drop when you are done reading. Downloadable eBooks and audiobooks can be accessed using your library card through both Hoopla and Libby. Reading Rainbow is a monthly book club for Teens and Young Adults in Central Oregon. We read Teen and New Adult fiction that centers the stories and experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community, but encourage anyone interested to join. Our book club meets the second Saturday of the month from 4pm-5pm at the Downtown Bend library.
