Join Kat Crawford, Bereavement Coordinator Clearpath Healthcare (formerly Hospice of Redmond), to learn about how youth cope with grief, applicable resources, and Camp Sunrise: a local grief camp for kids and teens. There will also be time for Q&A.
Kat Crawford joined the team at ClearPath Healthcare, formerly Hospice of Redmond, in the Spring of 2022, as their Bereavement Coordinator. Kat holds degrees in Counseling, Human Development and Family Science, and a postgraduate certification from the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. She has worked as a clinically trained counselor in local mental health and substance use treatment agencies and was the program assistant at The Multidisciplinary Pain Clinic at The Center for Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Care and Research in Bend. Additionally, she maintains her private practice as a counselor, life coach, and consultant, and has been an ordained minister since 2013.
A lifelong helper, Kat is passionate about walking alongside individuals during some of their most challenging moments—providing compassion, support, and practical coping skills to individuals and groups alike. Kat chooses to walk alongside others in their grief because she knows the journey well, and has the tools and skills to help others navigate their path. Kat moved to Central Oregon in 2000 after a lifetime of military travel as both an Air Force dependent and later a USAF spouse.

Hope in the Valley is a middle-grade novel exploring grief, friendship, family, and growing up in a community facing a housing crisis.
Twelve-year-old Indian-American Pandita Paul doesn't like change. She's not ready to start middle school and leave the comforts of childhood behind. Most of all, Pandita doesn't want to feel like she's leaving her mother, who died a few years ago, behind. After a falling out with her best friend, Pandita is planning to spend most of her summer break reading and writing in her favorite secret space: the abandoned but majestic mansion across the street. But then the unthinkable happens. The town announces that the old home will be bulldozed in favor of new—maybe affordable—housing. With her family on opposing sides of the issue, Pandita must find her voice—and the strength to move on—in order to give her community hope.
About the Author
Mitali Perkins has written many books for young readers, all of which explore crossing different kinds of borders. Her goal is to make readers laugh or cry, preferably both, as long as their hearts are widening. She lives and writes in the East Bay.
