Local musician welcomes library visitors.
Robin Wordal, local accordionista, will be performing in front of the Downtown Bend Library. Stop by for a listen as she plays holiday favorites.
Robin has been an active member of the Central Oregon Accordion Club for the last three years. They meet once a month for a rehearsal and then on another day, they play a one hour concert for the residents at Aspen Ridge.
She learned to play the accordion as a child, taking lessons from Joe Carbonatto, a well known musician in Seattle, from the ages of 7 to 14. She then left it, but picked it up again six years ago at the age of 68, and has been practicing daily since then.
She currently plays a Petosa Pro Compatto 96 bass accordion, made in Italy. She also has an antique accordion that still plays. That one is a small Hohner, only 80 basses. It was made in Germany in 1939. It’s very rare for an accordion of that age to still be playable. She takes special pleasure in using it to play Hava Nagila (a traditional Jewish celebratory folk song), since it was originally made while Hitler was in power! She is most fond of the “musette” sound, which is famous in French music for the accordion. Both of her accordions have that sound.
Robin is a retired RN. She has lived in Bend since 2015. She and her husband enjoy remodeling and working in the yard. They have planted 60 trees (mostly pines) and hundreds of native plants in their yard in the last nine years. She is also a Reiki volunteer in the Cancer Center at St. Charles Medical Center.
Robin played in Tin Pan Alley for the last two summers for the Bastille Day celebration put on by San Simon restaurant and bar. She also occasionally busks in front of the downtown library in Bend.
