Design and carve your own stamp with a linoleum block.
Registration required. Supplies provided.
A symbol is a single image—a leaf, a spiral, a key—that can become a kind of visual shorthand for something much more meaningful. This workshop will get you thinking about what symbolic imagery feels personal and impactful for you; then you’ll design and create a stamp of your very own to ink up & share everywhere– letters, journal pages, books, etc.
Stamp-making challenges us to think about negative space & mirror imaging as we create– negative space is the area around your design that helps define it—think of it as the silence that makes the music stand out. In stamps, the background space is just as important as the image itself. When you create a stamp, you’re carving into a surface that will be flipped when stamped onto paper. That means your design needs to be drawn in reverse, especially if it includes text, arrows, or directional imagery. This activity is a great challenge for your brain as well as a fun exercise in personal preference–you’ll leave with a symbol of who & what you are to share and make your mark!
