Beloved children's writer Avi wrote a little book some years back about writing: A BEGINNING, A MUDDLE, AND AN END (2008). He cited in the forward that a young reader wrote him that a good story consists of "a beginning, a muddle and an end." I couldn't agree more, as the observation also applies to writers' conferences. There are so many; so varied; so inconsistent and questionable in what their ultimate endgame is for attendees. This talk will address the variety of writers' conferences out there, and how to set realistic expectations for benefiting from them without being bilked on registration fees, yet get you and your work the maximum benefit of participation. Michael Steven Gregory is Executive Director of the Southern California Writers?
