Registration required. Must be age 21+
Imagine you’re a miner during the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 19th century. After a long day’s work, it’s time to head back to camp for chow at the saloon. In this class, you’ll learn how to prepare a hearty, one-pot Potato and Leek Chowder using Yukon Gold potatoes, along with bannock, a simple fry bread and staple of the time.
We’ll also imagine we’ve had a day worth celebrating and sip on a Champagne cocktail, just as Dawson City revelers once did. A non-alcoholic option will be available with advance notice.

About the Instructor:
Mary McGuire is the Store Manager at Arome. She was born and raised near Lodi, CA and spent the first 16 years of her life working in health insurance. She has always had a passion for cooking and baking (especially fresh pasta and cheesecakes!), and two years ago decided it was time for a big change and moved to Redmond. She instantly fell in love with the culture and people, especially the spring and summer when the farmer’s markets and product stands are open. When Mary isn’t at Arome, she is usually home trying out new recipes or hanging out with her tiny dog, Paige.
2026 A Novel Idea Book Selection:
Supersonic charts the rise of a boomtown city in the American West where ambition outpaces memory. In the present day, PTA president Sami Hasegawa-Stalworth is determined to rename her daughter’s elementary school after her late grandmother—a beloved music teacher and Japanese internment survivor. What begins as a symbolic family gesture spirals into a kaleidoscopic, multi-generational story of struggle—for and against change, and over who gets to define the future.
Through interwoven lives—an opioid-addicted 19th-century conman, a disgraced Navy seaman building a jet that will fly faster than sound, a stay-at-home dad turned weed entrepreneur, and a family haunted by the ghosts of progress—Supersonic reveals how each era tries to remake the same ground beneath its feet. At once intimate and panoramic, the story channels the restless energy that propels the West.
